[postgis-users] Postgis and perl

I am new to postgis and postgre.
I currently have a database in Mysql but I want to use postgis instead.

I am only storing points along with some information about the point.
I am using perl to parse files then add the parsed data into the =
database.
Can I use the Perl Postgre database interface to add spatial data to the =
postgis database?
Or do I have to use the loader program?

Any help/examples would be greatly appreciated!
