[postgis-users] Metadata (fgdc, etc)?

Metadata is more suited to an XML document tree like structure than a
rows and columns table structure, so I think you'd probably want to do
something like the srtext field in the spatial_ref_sys table in a
PostGIS spatialized database. But I haven't heard of anyone doing this
yet. Also, you've probably already googled this, but just in case, the
FGDC metadata standard (FGDC-STD-001-1998) is at
http://www.fgdc.gov/metadata/csdgm/.
